More projects completed in 2010:

Economic Development

A number of projects across the country were funded in this category. Most of these projects were focused on training young people on a variety of skills with the aim of improving their chances of employment or entrepreneurship. Below is a list of some of the projects the Foundation funded in this category.

  • Zebra Arts and Crafts in the Northern Cape: The organization focuses on skills training and job creation in arts and culture. The funding was used for buying material, renovation, training and marketing.
  • Teach South Africa: This is an organization that trains and employs Teach Ambassadors who teach maths, science and technology in previously disadvantaged communities around Eastern Cape, Gauteng; Limpopo and Western Cape.
  • Boiteko Special School in Gauteng: The school trains learners with disabilities
  • Salitig Training College in Limpopo: The organization trained NGOs, CBOs and PBOs that look after orphans and vulnerable children affected and living with HIV / AIDS.
  • Ikaheng Bakery in the Free State: The sponsored donation was used for purchasing training equipment electricity, paying rent, transport and stipends for the trainers.
  • Star Strider in Gauteng: The organization focuses on training women in arts, beadwork, etc
  • Vezokuhle Youth Development Organisation in Eastern Cape: The organization trained women in entrepreneurial skills
  • University Of Johannesburg in Gauteng: Telkom Foundation funded the University of Johannesburg for an enrichment programme for emerging and small, medium micro enterprises (SMMEs). This programme was held at the Centre for Small Business Development in the University of Johannesburg.

Welfare:

In response to a range of the welfare needs in different communities, the Foundation supported projects including the following:

Childline

Donations towards telephone service for abused children

Lifeline

Donations towards telephone service for victims of abuse

Bosabosele Outreach Project.

A programme that offers nutritional support to orphans

Tumelo Hospice

A Mabopane based project which provides home based health care for elderly people

United Cerebral Palsy Association of SA.

Donation of 26 Specialised wheelchairs and frames

Ma-Glad Day Care Centre

Food Security for support of HIV and AIDS sufferers

Ray of Hope Children's Fund

Food, blankets, clothes, heaters, mattresses & uniforms for school going orphans

Emndenini Day Care Centre

Donation towards food and giving of time for Mandela Day celebrations

SOS Children's Villages

Donation towards extra lessons & stationery.

Lethabong Labana Community Project

Donation towards health care for children with Cerebral Palsy

Bethesda Dream Centre

Donation towards food, blankets and clothing

Children in the Wilderness

Donation towards teaching children the importance of wildlife and nature

Methodist Church - Young Men's Guild

Donation towards food, blankets & clothing for needy families

Twilight Children

Matching of donation for the Twilight Children

Alzeimer's SA

Financial donation to Alzeimer's patients

Botshabelo Drop in and Multipurpose

Staff Volunteerism:

The Foundation continously encourage Telkom employees to give to vcommunities in various ways. Employees have participated by giving them time, rezources and skills in the following initiatives:

  1. Mandela Day: identification of schools and other organisations and giving of time, resources for the 67 Minutes Campaign
  2. Sakhisizwe Orphanage: Donation of toys from employees to orphans as part of the christmas celebrations
  3. ABSA - Make a Difference: Staff involvement in the building of the two houses
