Purpose

The Telkom Foundation Trust was established in 1998, but registered as a trust in 2002. It is a Non-Profit Organisation.

Strategy

In support of the South African government objective to improve the quality of education especially at foundation levels, the Foundation has refocused its strategy on education. The recent Annual National Assessment report released by the Department of Basic Education has affirmed the Foundation's choice of focus. Numeracy and Literacy are big challenges facing the country. Through strategic partnerships with government, civil society and other corporates, the Foundation has positioned itself to make meaningful impact in education.

What does good Corporate Citizenship mean?

Corporate citizenship is the deliberate inclusion of public interest into corporate decision making and honouring of triple bottom line - environmental social, and financial - principles.

The goal of corporate citizenship at Telkom is to embrace responsibility for the company's actions and encourage a positive impact through its activities on the environment, consumers, employees, communities and all other members of the public sphere.

Corporate social investment is a crucial component of corporate citizenship i.e. focusing on education and business skills development to accelerate growth, create employment and encouraged economic contribution by communities that were previously disadvantaged.
